Putting Community First
Alicia's priorities for her role as a District #95 board member
1. Fiscal Responsibility
As a library trustee and non-profit board member, I know how to balance financial responsibility with strong programming. I will ensure taxpayer dollars are used effectively to support student learning while maintaining financial stability.
2. Future-Ready Students
Preparing students for the future means investing in both cutting-edge learning and a healthy environment. I will advocate for sustainability initiatives that focus on innovative learning, improve school facilities and district green space, and enhance student well-being.
3. Community Collaboration
I will leverage my community connections to build partnerships that expand student opportunities.
4. Supporting Every Child’s Potential
Every child deserves a high-quality education in a safe, inclusive environment. I will work to ensure every student has access to the resources and support they need to thrive.
As a school board candidate, I bring a unique combination of leadership experience, fiscal responsibility, and a commitment to equity and sustainability. My work in the community has shown me the power of collaboration, and I’m ready to bring that same spirit to the Lake Zurich School Board. Together, we can ensure our schools continue to provide exceptional education and opportunities for all students.
Meet Alicia –
Dedicated Community Advocate, Volunteer, and Candidate
for District #95 School Board
Alicia and her husband have lived in Lake Zurich for over a decade with their two children enrolled in District #95 schools. She worked part-time for many years while raising her children. These days you will find her volunteering in the community.
As trustee and board secretary for the Ela Area Public Library District, Alicia has fulfilled her campaign promises of promoting the library to the community, preserving access to information, upholding a balanced budget, and supporting the library's mission. She will complete her term in April.
As a board member of Ancient Oaks Foundation, Alicia assists with marketing, fundraising, event planning, budget creation, and strategic planning. As volunteer chair she leads volunteers for conservation workdays, most often with the help of D95 students from Interact Club, REACT Club, National Honor Society and with local scout troops.
Alicia serves on the Community Education Committee for Citizens for Conservation of Barrington (CFC). Formerly she served as Chair of the Habitat Corridors program and helped encourage homeowners to plant native plants and to be ecological stewards of their properties.
The Ela Peace Pole that stands next to the Ela Historical Society was built with funds that Alicia helped raise. It is a beacon for peace in Lake Zurich designed and installed by the Ela Peace Project.
Now known as "Lion Alicia," she joined the Lake Zurich Lions Club and has been volunteering at the Alpine Fest (going strong since 1942) and the Lions Club Luau annual fundraiser for the past few years.
Alicia attended Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Latin American Studies. She was awarded the David Arnold prize for an independent research project and was a member of the Spanish Honor Society. She is proficient in writing and speaking Spanish.
Serving as trustee for a local government body, as a board member of a local non-profit, and as a volunteer leader in multiple local groups, Alicia has demonstrated her commitment to the community through hands-on volunteerism and leadership. From organizing habitat restoration projects to improving access to educational resources, her goal has always been to create a stronger, more vibrant community for everyone.
Now Alicia is running for Lake Zurich School Board to continue that service and ensure every child in District #95 has access to the resources, opportunities, and support they need to thrive.
